Job Hunting Frustration

Technical Writing. A good combination between being creative and having a stable career. I lack the self-confidence to become and author, despite it being one of my biggest dreams.

(Perhaps I’ll post a serial novel on here…)

So I thought that Technical Writing could be a good alternative to the unstable career of an author.

Technical Writing is more than just writing manuals and procedural guides. It includes designing, editing, and lots of research. But therein lies the catch, companies often want you to have a background in the industry.

My plans have changed many times in my short life. I went to university to get a degree so that I could teach English in Japan.

That fell through.

I ran away to the East Coast and took up a year in Baking School. I’ve been working in the same place for the last 4 years. I just finished the program this year. I worked hard. I got a 3.77 cumulative GPA. I graduated with Honours.

Now comes the hard part: applying for jobs.

I just want an Entry Level job at a nice company where I can showcase my skills in writing. So does everyone else. However, how can you call it an “Entry Level Job” and then ask for 2 or more years in experience?

I think that I’ve applied for over 50 jobs in the last month. Only a handful have told me no and a bunch that haven’t even replied at all.

I need more of a portfolio. So that’s why I’ve turned to this platform. To use it as a blogging space and a place to write something, anything.

So as my second official post, I welcome you to follow me in my journey. In writing, in using Medium, in life.

I hope you’ll like my content.
